I am a director, movement director and choreographer. I trained in contemporary dance and choreography at Trinity Laban, and on the acclaimed Movement MA at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. I work across a wide range of theatrical scales and contexts, from tiny two-handers in village halls to the West End. As a movement director I specialise in new writing, while as a director and choreographer my main focus is work for children and families, often involving live music and physical comedy.
As a movement director, I work regularly with Pentabus, who create outstanding new writing for rural touring. Credits include Crossings, Here I Belong, Wolves are Coming for You and As the Crow Flies. Also within the rural touring sector, I have worked with New Perspectives on The Wolf, The Duck and The Mouse, Harvest, and their award-winning 2018/19 production The Fishermen. I have also created movement for new writing for Tamasha, Kali Theatre, Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds and Theatre Hullabaloo.
I am based in the East Midlands; movement work for Nottingham Playhouse includes their acclaimed production of The Kite Runner, which has gone on to do three UK and international tours, two seasons in the West End, at The Wyndhams and The Playhouse and a run on Broadway at the Hayes Theater. Also for Nottingham Playhouse, I have movement directed Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk, Pinocchio, Tom’s Midnight Garden and several other family productions. I choreographed many of Derby Theatre’s hugely popular Christmas productions; Hansel and Gretel, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella and A Christmas Carol, and movement directed The Rise and Fall of Little Voice.
Directing credits include Little Red Riding Hood for Nottingham Playhouse, Mark and the Marked for Box Clever and Spinning Yarns for Theatre Hullabaloo. For my own company, WinterWalker, I have directed FIVE, The Nutcracker and The Mouse King and Three Keepers.
I lecture at Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, and deliver workshops and training in physical theatre and character movement. I have previously developed and taught courses in anatomy, movement and acting for animators, lecturing for the London Animation Studio at Central St Martins and at SAE London, with my curriculum also taught at the Oxford and Dubai SAE campuses.
I am in the middle of my practice research PhD at De Montfort University, Leicester. My title is Choreographing Comedy: Convergences of contemporary dance and theatrical clowning in performance and training. Visit the research site here: Clowndance
